SO THEY SAY IT'S YOUR BIRTHDAY!

Happy Birthday, Ringo Starr.

Even if I'm a day late.

Categorization

There are three categories you can put all of the things you need to do at any given moment into:

C-LEVEL ITEMS:
- I want to go on a bike ride today. The sun is shining, and it's just beautiful outside.
- I want to find more Regina Spektor clips and videos on YouTube.
- I want to find a good sushi restaurant in Provo. And by this I mean I want to actually go out to each Japanese restaurant and taste their sushi to see if it is the best. Wouldn't that be a good way to spend an afternoon...and blow a hundred bucks?
- I want to eat something. As is usual.
- I want to check out the "Suburbia" exhibit at BYU's art museum. It looks hilarious.

B-LEVEL ITEMS:
- I need to go grocery shopping some time. I just finished off all of the last of my "emergency" frozen meals in my freezer, so I suppose I'll be going to Macey's soon.
- I need to visit Taylor's Bike Shop and have my bike tuned up.
- I need to talk to certain people about certain peoples' birthdays.
- I need to eat food.

A-LEVEL ITEMS:
- I need to study some more Hebrew and memorize the vocab for today's two chapters
- I need to eat some food. Now. I'm starving my face off.
- I need to get this nasty taste out of my mouth. The drinking fountains in the JKB have disgusting water. So strange.
- I need a hair cut.

You know it's bad when you put the fact that you need a hair cut in your "A-LEVEL ITEMS" category.

And you KNOW it's bad when you are actually contemplating going to get a hair cut before you go get something to eat. What is the world coming to?

Oh! The Irony

Today I got a new bike.

[How sick are those front-wheel shocks???]

When I bought it, I had my friend come with me for a second opinion.

When we were leaving, I had to drive my car home from the bike shop. Because she's cool, my friend said she would ride the bike home for me.

When we were back at my apartment, I was checking out the tires of the bike, and I noticed that there was a HUGE thorn in the front one.

When I pulled it out....

[caught on camera]

...my front tire was completely deflated within a matter of minutes.

My Name is Moshe

I have written on this blog for over an entire year now. My first post, as I just saw, was on April 8, 2009. It’s a sad day when your blog’s birthday comes and goes and you don’t even notice it. I mean, that should be monumental, should it not? That should be something that you can tell people about, something you can...I don’t know....write out and hang up on your wall.

In other business, it has been a few weeks since I last posted, as a good friend politely mentioned to me over facebook. My humblest apologies. That last semester nearly killed me, especially towards the end there. But I got my A in chemistry, and thus I can say that I have, I feel, won the fight.

As I side note, you should all know that just the other night one of my roommates (I have switched apartments since I last posted) made a comment on how “girly” it is to have a blog. First this made me confused, then it made me laugh, and then it made me seriously question my manliness. I did a few push-ups later that night just to make sure I was keeping my edge. I figured that pretty much settles the score.

This summer is going to be a great one, that’s for sure. I’m volunteering at Wasatch Elementary a few times every week until school gets out on May 28th. Many of you know that this is also my birthday, so I guess this day will be both a plus and a minus because all of “my kids” are no longer “my kids”. I guess I will just have next Fall’s batch to look forward to. They’re adorable. They hug me when I go to leave, and I teach them Hebrew phrases like “shalom” and “ani rotze lelechet lishon”.

I’m taking Hebrew 102, the accelerated Spring Semester course. Pretty much I love the Jews. In this class, everyone is called by a different name, an Israeli name. My name is Moshe, which is Hebrew for Moses. Every morning I walk into class and tell my teacher to “let my people go.” Needless to say, she keeps refusing to listen to the God of Israel. I guess we’ll have to wait and see where this conflict is headed.

I have cleaning checks to take care of now, and I’m not excited. My roommates aren’t exactly what you would call “clean freaks”, which makes this time of the month particularly difficult. And we have ants invading our kitchen in various parts. I am utterly disgusted. And yet the management is in no hurry to call the pest control man. More than once I have picked up the sponge to clean my dishes and I’ve had to free an ant or two that have caught their legs in the fibers of the sponge. And tonight I am cleaning our kitchen with that sponge.

I shall not sleep tonight until our kitchen shines like the top of the Chrysler Building.

Divine Comedy

My hopes and dreams of having a successful first date were shattered today when my date could not convince her friends to leave Lagoon in time to make it home for a lousy Humor U show at seven o'clock that I was trying to take her to. This put me in quite an awkward position. I don't know this girl all too well (that's what the first date was for), and so I figured the best thing to do would be to just reschedule (awkward) and tell her that she shouldn't worry about trying to fight her friends to come home early. What a mess.

An awkward situation was made worse as I spent the whole day trying my hardest to get a hold of her as she was, in a word, incommunicado.

And so I spent the evening instead with my family at Divine Comedy, which made me cry with laughter. This was much needed. I have my brother Tim to thank for the quick invitation.

DC was followed closely by a Betos run, which, as people from Springville know too well, was established to provide sub-par Mexican fast-food for people like my brother. To me, it was, and continues this evening to be, stomach-lurching. To Tim, it was like chocolate to a pregnant woman.

Only God knows the things Tim would crave if he actually were a pregnant woman.

A night like this provides me with much time to think about things in a very interesting light. I wish I had been able to pull off a first date with a girl at some point in the semester. I hope I go to every Divine Comedy show BYU provides me with. I want to never set foot inside Beto's Mexican Restaurant again so long as I live. And I hope tomorrow is not Sunday, although I'm pretty sure it is.

Fast Sunday.
